Jules F. Nielsen Jr. (Rick), died Oct. 26, 2007 at his home in Spokane, Wash. He was born June 2, 1933 in Chicago, Ill. to Jules and Harriet Nielsen.
Mr. Nielsen was a longtime resident of Pine/Payson area since 1967, prior to moving to Spokane, Wash. in 2005.
Mr. Nielsen served his country as a captain in the Air Force, where he was a jet fighter pilot. He served during the Vietnam era and the Cuban Missile Crisis. In Cuba, he flew protection for the reconnaissance planes. He flew in Guatemala, Panama, Granada, Cuba and Germany.
Mr. Nielsen also participated in air shows. He was part of a 60-man formation team.
He also flew for the CIA, did some acting and built and raced sports cars.
In 2005, Mr. Nielsen moved to Spokane, Wash. to be near family. He has allowed his land to be used for a children's petting farm, helping the community, disabled and at-risk children in Spokane, Wash. and surrounding areas. He got great pleasure out of seeing the joy on the children's faces. Mr. Nielsen was willing to help anyone at any time. We thank him for the generosity and kindness he has shown to many.
He is survived by his brother, Richard of Wisconsin; two nieces; one nephew; his stepchildren, Monica Phillipy, Cheryl Niece, Steve Kyle and Tom Kyle; and his former wife, Eulia Kyle; 10 stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services, with military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Pine Memorial Cemetery.
