Skateboarding Accident Sends Payson Man To Valley Hospital

Matthew Clayton Angus, 22, from the Mesa del area, sustained significant head injuries Saturday afternoon while skateboarding with a friend, Payson Police Chief Don Engler said.

Angus and a friend were skateboarding toward Payson on Houston Mesa Road

around noon, when the two became separated, Engler said.

"He turned around and noticed Matthew was not behind him and went back to look."

"A little ways back near a Payson city limit sign, he found Matthew in the road with a bleeding head injury," Engler said.

He said Angus was flown to a Phoenix area hospital in serious condition.

Officers with the Gila County Sheriff's Office were first on the scene and called in Payson Police at 12:49, who then investigated the accident, police said.

Engler said no vehicles were involved in the accident and Angus' condition is unknown. The only other person in the area when the accident happened was the other skateboarder, who didn't see the accident, so there are no actual witnesses to exactly what happened, Engler said.
