Nationally recognized jazz guitarist Stan Sorenson teams up with Emmy award-winning jazz pianist Nick Manson, in a Sunday afternoon performance, Nov. 11.
"This may be the best instrumental performance so far this year for the monthly jazz series, sponsored by the church and the Payson Friends of Jazz," Gerry Reynolds said.
Sorenson has performed with jazz greats Nancy Wilson, Jimmy Smith, Rosemary Clooney, Vic Damone, Jeffrey Osborne, The Fifth Dimension and many others.
His various jazz ensembles have performed at numerous festivals and have opened for Ella Fitzgerald, Burt Bacharach, David Benoit and others, during his successful career as a jazz guitarist.
Most recently, Sorenson enjoys performing locally with vocalists Delphine Cortez and Dennis Rowland, and jazz instrumental greats George Benson and Joey DeFrancesco.
Sorenson is in high demand as a performer, as well as a teacher.
Multifaceted Nick Manson is a composer, arranger and producer who has excelled in several fields.
"His piano playing is fluid, lyrical, consistently inventive, and quite individual," Reynolds said.
He recently moved to Gilbert, but he continues to commute to the Los Angeles area to record, arrange and perform at prominent jazz clubs.
His most recent recording is, "Jazz Impressions: Ray Charles."
In addition, bassist John Sims will join the group, someone who is recognized as a highly proficient jazz performer.Local drummer and event organizer Gerry Reynolds will play drums.
The event is free and open to all, and a $5 donation at the door is encouraged, as it is the means to supporting such exceptional performers like Stan, Nick and John.
However, no one will be turned away.
