Rim Christian hosts program

Pete and Kirn Kemp of Thy Will Ministries will give a presentation of their work among the people of the Fort Apache Reservation at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at Rim Christian Church in Mesa del Caballo. Their efforts have been rewarded with the establishment of White Mountain Apache Christian Church in Carrizo, a very successful jail and youth ministry, along with other services to the Apache people.

Retirement celebration

Robert Baird, pastor of Central Christian Church of Payson (formerly Payson Christian Church), has retired from the preaching ministry after 62 years. This is the fourth time Baird has retired and he said he "hopes that this time, it sticks."

A celebration to commemorate Baird's service will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Masonic Lodge dining room, 200 East Rancho Road. All friends, family and associates are invited to stop by and convey their good wishes and congratulations for his many years of service. Refreshments of cake and hot/cold drinks will be served.

Baird graduated from San Jose Bible College, in San Jose, Calif. in 1948, however, he actually started his ministerial career at a small congregation while still a sophomore in college.

After graduating, he served as pastor of a church in Grants Pass, Ore., where he married Margaret Taylor, his wife of 55 years. His loving wife passed away shortly after their anniversary in 2003. He is blessed with five children and eight grandchildren.

Baird has had a distinguished career in the ministry, having served 10 different churches in five different states, including the last 10 years in Payson. He plans to keep busy "serving God and my wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," in any way he can. He will continue to drive to Globe each Thursday to conduct Bible Study classes.
