The Lady Longhorn volleyball team gathered yesterday (Thursday) to celebrate the culmination of a banner season, during which the team finished second in the regular season, compiled a 12-5 match record and earned a berth to state.
Also during the course of the campaign, the Lady Horns were second in the Chino Valley tournament, third at the Payson Invitational and fourth in the Flagstaff Coconino shoot out.
The team awards celebration, which honored the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity players, was held at the Payson Christian Church.
During the festivities, coach Arnold Stonebrink made public for the first time the players selected to the All-East team in a voting of coaches held at the conclusion of the state tournament.
From PHS, Mollee Lee, Hannah Armenta, Jenna Robertson and Cydney Figueroa were named member of the All-East First Team.
Honorable mention recognition was give to Segan Cline and Laci Sommars.
East coaches also chose Round Valley's Cassidi Donaldson as the region's player of the year and the Lady Elks Tammy Quetel the coach of the year.
With the culmination of the season, some of the players will turn out for the basketball team, which began practices early this week. Others will play on Payson's Club Rim team or possibly one of the valley-based teams.
