Alberta Prall, 92, of Phoenix and Pine, died Nov. 12, 2007. She was born Oct. 13, 1912.
Mrs. Prall began working with Gila County Cooperative Extension in 1974 as a volunteer -- "working above and beyond the call of duty" was always been her motto. She helped raise about $2,000 annually for her community through the Pine-Strawberry Extension Homemakers Club. She served as president of other local county and state homemakers and represented Arizona Extension Home Economists.
Mrs. Prall coordinated the food commodities program for 10 years, and was the first president of the new Food Bank.
She served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Family and Community Leadership project and was instrumental in getting a $50,000 grant to bring that program to Arizona.
In 1989, she received the "Distinguished Citizen Award" from the University of Arizona and in 1992, was presented the University of Arizona College of Agriculture Lifetime Award.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Loy; son, John Prall (Loretta); four grandsons, Andrew Loy (Carol), William Loy, Clark Prall (Brenda) and Russell Prall (Jackie); nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 at the First Baptist Church of Pine. Graveside services will be held at the Pine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
