Donald B. Fortney died Nov. 11, 2007. He was born Sept. 12, 1926 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the only child of Helen and Oliver Fortney.
Mr. Fortney was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy aboard the USS Morris.
Later he resided in Yuma, Ariz., serving as director of public works for Yuma County for 22 years. He retired in 1989 and resided in Payson, Ariz. for 13 years, during which time he and his wife, Janice, traveled extensively. The Fortneys moved to Lake Havasu City in 2004.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Rhonda and his parents. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Jan; daughters, Sandy (Larry) Shelton of Ocean View, Hawaii, Marla (Gene) Kelly of Tempe, Ariz., Dr. Sharmie (Dr. Warren) Johnson of Peoria, Ariz.; stepsons, Randy, Robby and Ricky Baker and their spouses; grandchildren, Lisa Kemper, Arrica Bergstrom, Gene Kelly Jr., Sean Kelly and Cameron Johnson, Lindsay, Cole and Steen Baker and Bry and Jana Baker; great-grandchildren, Alexis Bergstrom, Jessica and Julia Kemper.
A celebration of life was held at Havasu Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mr. Fortney's name to Hospice of Havasu, P.O. Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ; 86405.
