Longhorn Pair Net All-East Status

Senior Chad Lammers, junior Brandon Moratti make 1st team, senior Aaron Loeffler on 2nd team

Longhorn soccer stalwarts Chad Lammers and Brandon Moratti have been named to the All-East region first team.

The two, along with several of their teammates, will be honored Nov. 28 at the team's season-ending awards banquet to be held in the Payson High School cafeteria.

Chad Lammers (11) was named to the All-East region first team. Lammers was also cited as being the Horns' top offensive and defensive player and a candidate for the East Player of the Year.

The festivities will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

First year coach Chad Gower said Lammers and Moratti were named to the first team "because they were the heart and backbone of the entire team."

Lammers, a senior, also received some mention from voting region coaches es as the East Player of the Year.

Although the POY will not be named until later this month, Lammers was among the candidates mentioned because "he is an individual who could help determine a game by his play," Gower said.

Senior Isaac Cluff (9) received all-region honorable mention accolades for his contributions to the Longhorn boys soccer effort.

The coach also praised Lammers' offensive and defensive contributions saying, "his signature play of heading a ball that would knock others unconscious and running down opponents and knocking them off the ball was what led many coaches to put his name in with the top players in the East."

Moratti, a junior, will be counted on next season to fill the void created by Lammer's graduation.

"I am hoping he can step up," Gower said.

Second team East honors were doled out to senior Aaron Loeffler, who was injured most of the season.

"He did not practice hard every day so he would not further the injury," Gower said. "But he was the only Payson forward given an honor because he consistently scored the big goals and came to each game with an intensity few others could come close to."

Seniors Isaac Cluff and Anthony Pearce were named to the All-East honorable mention team.

Chad Lammers (11) goes after a loose ball, as Shane Crisp (5) works to help out his teammate.

The coach praised both for their contributions.

"Isaac is an amazing athlete who was a great captain on and off the field," he said. "Anthony has been a game saver the past two seasons, coming up with some amazing saves that changed the momentum of the game."

Last season, the Longhorns earned a berth in the Class 3A state tournament, but were eliminated in the first round by a 2-1 loss to West region champion Wilcox.
