Arizona AARP reminds residents that open enrollment for Medicare Part D will take place from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31. AARP has a new brochure: Medicare Drug Coverage: What You Need to Know that explains the Medicare drug benefit.
In addition, AARP urges residents who are currently enrolled in a prescription drug coverage program to evaluate their current plan's coverage to make sure it is still the best option.
The new brochure outlines coverage for Medicare's Part D prescription drugs. Included in the information is the type of coverage provided, along with facts on expenses an individual would incur in a plan.
AARP suggests that now is a good time for people to talk with their doctors about the medications they take, to see if there are generics or other lower-cost alternatives to help them reduce their drug costs.
Although open enrollment begins Nov. 15, AARP reminds Arizonans that those who are new to Medicare; lost insurance coverage that was as good as Medicare's standard coverage; moved into a nursing home; or qualify for extra help in Medicare may be eligible to enroll throughout the year.
