Thank you and congratulations for the wonderful editorial on November 16 about the true meaning of Thanksgiving. As was stated, "The celebration began as a way to thank God for the bountiful harvest . . ."As also documented in the editorial, President George Washington, in his initial Thanksgiving proclamation in 1789 stated that the day is to be devoted "to the service of that great and glorious being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be," and that people should "unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions ..."
Special thanks also go to the Elks Lodge for their free Thanksgiving feast for this community, plus the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (in cooperation with Bashas') for giving out Thanksgiving boxes to more than 250 less-fortunate families.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, may each of us offer prayers to God as we thank Him for each of our blessings, seek forgiveness for our transgressionsnd share ourratitude for the special servants within this community.
