Approximately 380 Christmas tree-cutting tags remain available for the Apache-Sitgreaves, Kaibab, Prescott and Tonto national forest tree-cutting areas.
These tags, which did not sell through the Sale-by-Mail Christmas tree-cutting program, will be offered for sale beginning today at the Tonto National Forest Supervisor's Office, 2324 East McDowell Road in Phoenix.
Tags will be on sale from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tags will be sold for the regular $10 fee on a first-come-first-serve basis until they are sold out. Purchases must be made with check or money order. Neither cash nor credit cards will be accepted.
Tags cannot be purchased by phone. Tags are also still available for over-the-counter purchase at the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Contact the forest at 928-333-4301.
Because the demand for Christmas tree-cutting tags in certain areas exceeds the supply of available trees, a drawing system is annually used to issue tags.
"We had 4,800 applicants for approximately 3,950 tags," stated Candy Luhrsen, this year's program manger.
