In July, Dr. Joseph Spear joined the staff at Anderson Dental Group. Spear grew up in Payson and is an alumni of Payson High School.
"My wife, Annie and Eric (Dr. Anderson) urged me into dentistry," Spear said. While in pre-med studies, my wife and I looked at many options in all areas of medicine and dentistry fulfilled my goals. I was excited about all the dentistry had to offer and was enthusiastic about what I could offer as a dentist."
Spear earned his doctorate in dentistry from the University of Colorado, at which time he started his practice in Heber, Ariz. After some time, Dr. Spear and his family moved to Grand Junction, Colo., where he practiced for a few years.
Dr. Eric Anderson called and asked him to come to Payson and join the team at Anderson Dental Group. Dr. Spear specializes in family and cosmetic dentistry.
"People tell me he is a very gentle dentist and very conscientious," Eric Anderson said of Spear.
"I have all the trust and faith in the world in Eric," Spear said.
Both Eric's and Joseph's families moved here in 1971.
Dr. Scott Anderson opened Anderson Dental Group in 1971. "It was the first full-time dental office in Payson," Eric said.
Dr. Spear and his wife have four children. He also has a sister and brother living in the area with their families. Spear said his parents, who had the first propane company in town, are trying to return, too.
Anderson Dental Group is a full spectrum practice with the first periodontist (gum and implant specialist) in town.
