The Lady Longhorns put their unblemished 2-0 record on the line when the team travels today, Friday, to Class 2A Valley Christian.

On hand to lead the Payson charge against the Chandler-based college preparatory school will be two players, Cydney Figueroa and Marquel Waterman, who led the team offensively in a 60-41 win over homestanding Fountain Hills.

In the Nov. 27 clash, Figueroa finished with a game-high 22 points on six of 17 shooting from the field. From the line, she was nine of 12.

Waterman hit four-of-five shot attempts on the way to 11 points.

Although the two teams were deadlocked 14-14 early, Payson went on a 33-11 run to ice the victory.

In addition to the scoring of Figueroa and Waterman, the team received seven points from forward Jenna Robertson.

Robertson also dominated on the boards, corralling 17 rebounds, 12 of which were defensive.

Kayla Morgan and Janae Blalock also pounded the boards, finishing with a combined 20 rebounds.

Defensively, the Lady Horns recorded seven steals, four by Robertson and three from Figueroa. Waterman led the team in assists with three.

The Lady Horns also received commendable all-around floor games from Brittney McDaniel and Rose Hardt.

McDaniel scored four points, hauled in six rebounds, had two steals and contributed two assists.

Hardt tallied four points, corralled six rebounds and blocked a shot.

In addition to today's game against VC and a Dec. 4 encounter vs. Florence, the Lady Horns will travel Dec. 6 through Dec. 8 to Eagar-Springerville to participate in the Round Valley Invitational.

The Payson-hosted Holiday Hoops tourney will be played Dec. 28-29 in the Wilson Dome and old PHS gymnasium.
