An increasing number of candidates for the three open seats on the Payson Council look to make the upcoming election rather competitive.
Rick Croy has collected a council candidate packet this week, indicating his intention to seek a council seat.
Croy is a member of the town's Housing Advisory Commission.
Bruce Wales has also announced he will not run for council.
Along with Croy, Bruce Van Camp, Greg Friestad, Michael Hughes, Tom Loeffler, David Rutter and incumbent John Wilson will likely be on the ballot for council.
The council seats of Vice Mayor Tim Fruth, Andy Romance and Wilson are up for election.
Mayor Bob Edwards is running for a second mayoral term. His challenger, Kenny Evans, is looking to wear the mayoral hat for the first time.
Candidates have until Dec. 12 to return their signatures for verification, after which time they may begin disbursing campaign information.
The election will be held in May 2008.
