The northbound left lane of travel on Highway 87, near milepost 184, has been closed this morning, Tuesday, for an indefinite period of time.
A DPS press release said a one vehicle-pedestrian accident forced the closure of the northbound lane near the Bush Highway turnoff, about 40 miles south of Payson.
DPS said a contract worker was working alongside the highway around 7:15 a.m., when struck by a northbound vehicle.
The worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Southbound travel is not affected, DPS said.
