Blues Artist Margo Reed To Perform At Church

Margo Reed will be performing at the Community Presbyterian Church on Oct. 14.

The performance will be 2 p.m. at the church on 800 W. Main St.

Inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame in 2004, vocalist Margo Reed, a member of the amazing Reed family of performers, has been singing her heart out in Phoenix since 1973. After moving there from Chicago, she quickly established herself as one of the finest singers in the Valley.

Known mostly for her work as a jazz vocalist, Reed brings the spirits of Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith with her to every performance, and has brought joy to Arizona jazz fans for more than 30 years.

She will perform in Payson with a jazz quartet consisting of other notable musicians; Joel Robin on piano, Bob Lashier on bass, Tony Vacca on saxophone and local drummer Gerry Reynolds.

Reed's first gigs in Phoenix were at the legendary nightclub The Century Sky Room. That led to a long run at the premier Phoenix jazz club, the Boojum Tree. She has since performed at many major venues in San Diego, Seattle, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Atlanta, Detroit, Portland and Denver.

Always backed by the cream of the crop of jazz musicians, Reed now performs with pianist and longtime associate, Joel Robin every Monday at the Kazimirez Wine Bar in Scottsdale, as well as at other high-profile venues and events.

While performance is free and open to all, a $5 donation may be given at the door. The Payson Friends of Jazz and the Community Presbyterian Church are sponsoring the performance. For more information or to reserve seating, contact Gerry Reynolds at, or leave a message at (480) 785-1278.
