MOUNTAIN BIKING 101

OCT. 20, 8AM to NOON AT RUMSEY PARK RAMADA #1

Come learn the essentials of mountain biking. Topics to be covered include bike set-up, maintenance and repair, along with hands-on practice in specific mountain biking techniques.The course will end with a trail ride on one of the USFS and Payson Area Trails System routes, to practice what new skills you have learned. The registration fee is $15, which includes snacks and water. mountain bike and helmet are required;referred equipment includes a tire repair kit and pump.Registration ends Oct. 12. Class size is limited, so register early.

DUTCH OVEN COOKING CLASS

NOV. 3 AT RUMSEY PARK RAMADA #3

Ready to "Wow!" your family and friends with your gourmet camp-cooking skills? Our first Dutch Oven cooking class was so popular, we've decided to bring it back with a Thanksgiving flavor. Participants will learn how to cook turkey, main dishes, desserts and fresh bread from award-winning Dutch Oven cooks. Registrants will get hands-on experience cooking their own dish. Loaner ovens will be available to those who don't own one. Registration fee is $30 per person, which includes food at the end of class.

AMERICAN RED CROSS WILDERNESS FIRST AID BASICS

SATURDAY and SUNDAY, NOV. 10-11

This comprehensive two-day course is designed to teach participants and outdoor enthusiasts the skills needed to survive in an emergency medical situation until help is available, such as mountaineering, first aid administration in the wilderness, help signals, and dealing with weather conditions. This course is recognized by the American Camping Association and The Boy Scouts of America. Upon successful completion of the 16-hour, two-day class,ncluding a written test and skill segments, participants will receive a Wilderness First Aid certification, valid for three years. Prerequisites: CPR certification is not required although it is HIGHLY recommended and current knowledge of skills will be assumed. Participants must be at least 15 years old by theecond day of class.egister through Nov. 2 at the parks and recreation office. Course fee is $95 and class size is limited, so register early!

PEE WEE SOCCER

The season is going well. There haven't been any injuries. The children are developing well. We have six teams: the Blue Dragons, the Rabbits, the Kickers, the Weasels, the Soccer Balls, and the Chargers. The teams are noncompetitive because we aren't keeping score and the children (and coaches) are anticipating the end-of-season pizza party.

TRIP TO THE EDGEWATER HOTEL IN LAUGHLIN, NEV.

OCT. 23-25

We are now taking reservations for our annual three-day/two-night trip to Laughlin "Founded on Fun," which will provide ample opportunity to explore an exciting variety of activities: shopping, spas, dining, and museums. The bus will depart from the parks and recreation office at 7 a.m. on Oct. 23 and return on Oct. 25 at approximately 6 p.m. The cost is $168 double occupancy and $115 single occupancy. Trip includes: deluxe motor coach, upgraded rooms at the Edgewater Hotel, one breakfast or lunch buffet and luggage service. Tour is limited to 52 participants. KINDERMUSIK

FALL 2007 -- REGISTER NOW AT THE RECREATION OFFICE

Kindermusik incorporates the most current research on early childhood development. In a Kindermusik class, licensed educators lead a group of parents and their children through joyful activities, using music and movement.

Parents learn more about their child's unique developmental process, and the shared learning experience creates a unique bond as the child associates learning with fun and musical play.

Our Time -- 1.5 to 3 years old -- Wednesday 10:30-11:15 a.m., through Dec. 12, $100/child

Village -- Newborn to 1.5 years old -- Wednesday 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Oct. 17-Dec. 12, $45/child.

Family Time -- Families with children newborn and up (children under 1 are free) -- Wednesday 12:45-1:30 p.m., through Oct. 31, $65/child.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Flag football is under way on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at Rumsey I from 5:30-7:30. We have 9 teams this year from ages 6-14. The score isn't competitive and we have some excellent athletes participating.
