Don't miss a fun opportunity to taste some of the best chili in these parts. The first-ever Chili Challenge will be tomorrow, Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. under the ramada at the Pine Community Center.

Thirty tasty recipes will be vying for the honor of "Best Chili." Buy a tasting cup for $3 and try all these wonderful chili recipes until they are gone. Many great raffle items have been donated by local businesses and individuals. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. See you there.

Denise Prechtel is delighted with her new quilt. The Halloween quilt was made and donated by the DPS Quilt Angels and everyone who donated blood or volunteered in some way had their name in for the drawing.

Oktoberfest in the Pines at Rimside Grill begins at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, with fun, games, music and special events and prizes throughout the day. The JD Madrid band will play. Admission tickets are just $1.

Thanks to all who donated blood or helped with the recent blood drive.

Special thanks to the First Baptist Church for the great space, Pine Village Bakery for yummy baked goods, the Calderons for a vegetable tray, Oestmanns for a cheese tray, Prechtels for cupcakes, Uncle Tom's for ice, Safeway for all the juices, Fine Deli for pizza for the workers and volunteers, DPS Angels for the great Halloween quilt and to all the volunteers. Sheri Earp, blood drive coordinator says, "To each and every one of our donors, you are the special ones. Bless you!" Denise Prechtel won the quilt.

SCAF will have a general meeting open to the public at 12:30 on Monday, October 8. This is an important meeting, as there will be an election of new board members. The meeting is in the Senior Dining Room at the Pine Community Center.

The menu at the Senior Dining Room for Oct. 8-12 will be: Monday -- Stuffed pork chops, wild rice and vegetable. Tuesday -- Chicken cordon blue, baked potato and vegetable. Wednesday -- Enchiladas, rice and beans. Thursday -- Roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy and vegetable. Friday -- Sweet and sour shrimp with rice. Full meal is $5 and includes salad bar. Salad bar alone is $3. Call 928 476-2151 a day ahead for reservations.

Teens, there is still time to turn in your original story at the Pine Library and you just might win $50.

Write a short story using the characters from the movie, "High School Musical" and turn it in by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9. The winner will be announced at the theme party at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct.12 in the library activity room.

You must attend the party, to receive the prize. Lots of games and activities will be part of the theme party including karaoke and lip-sync singing.

Come dressed as your favorite character in the movie. Stop by the library for all the details but hurry, as time is running out. The library is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Bring the children to the Fall Break Movie Madness feature, "Fire House Dog," which is rated PG. The movie will be shown at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. Refreshments will be provided. Children should bring a pillow to be comfortable on the floor.

There are still a few openings for flu shots which will be available at the senior center on Tuesdays, Oct. 23 and Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. both days. Call the Thrift Store, (928) 476-4633 to make your appointment.
