Community Health, Care Fair Planned For November

A Community Health and Care Fair will be held in November for residents throughout the Rim Country.

Everyone is invited to participate, said Cory Houghton, marketing director for Payson Regional Medical Center, one to the main sponsors of the event.

The Health and Care Fair is from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 3 at the old gym at Payson High School.

Free screenings will be offered for both adults and children. Additional services will be provided for a small fee.

The adult screenings available at no charge include: blood pressure, breast exam, dental, diabetes, skin check, hearing, lower extremity, vision, circulation, nutrition and oxygen saturation.

The free screenings for children: dental exams and brushing techniques, heart and lung exams, vision and hearing tests. Children can also get free fingerprints from the Payson Police Department and dental exams and brushing techniques from Anderson Dental Group's Jeff Anderson. Parents can also get immunization and nutrition information for children at the fair, though no children's immunizations will be available.

The Gracie Haught Memorial Fund is donating bike helmets and car seats to the event.

The Payson Lions are bringing the Arizona Medical Eye Unit, supported by the Lions Vision Center, Inc. to the fair this year to provide glaucoma screening, vision screening and patient education. No prescription glasses will be provided. Assisting in the "eye mobile" will be the Risser-Thomas Eye Clinic.

Adult immunizations for flu, tetanus and pneumonia will be offered for fees of $25, $35 and $40 respectively, with Medicare and most insurance accepted.

Bone density testing will be provided for a $20 fee as well. Blood tests will be done for $10 for women and $15 for men.

No appointments are necessary, but you can put your name on a time sheet at the event and come back for the service, or you may wait in line, but bring a campstool for your comfort, said Houghton.

She said PRMC would have about 25 staff members participating in the fair.

A variety of groups will be using the fair as an opportunity to provide information about their activities. Among these are Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice & Palliative Care, Kiwanis of Zane Grey, Medical Loan Closet, Tiny Toes, Healthy Woman and Senior Circle.

In addition to PRMC, sponsors for the Nov. 3 event are Mogollon Health Alliance, RTA Hospice & Palliative Care, Eastern Arizona Area Health Education and ERA Realty.
