Payson will soon be able to put a face with the name of its newest department head.
Cameron Davis was chosen as the Tourism and Economic Vitality director, a position and department established by a council vote July 11. He will begin his duties Nov. 1.
Davis owns his own advertising company in Scottsdale and has a bachelor of science degree in advertising and speech communications from Northern Arizona University.
It was his experience in Web page construction and marketing that wowed the selection committee, comprised of Mayor Bob Edwards, Councilor Ed Blair, interim Town Manager and Chief Fiscal Officer Debi Galbraith, Payson Regional Economic Development Corporation Director Barbara Ganz and Tourism Task Force member John Landino.
"He has over 10 years of marketing-type experience and a lot of Internet and Web page experience," Galbraith said. "He had a knock-out presentation."
Davis was one of 33 original applicants and six chosen for interviews.
Cathy Boone, who has been acting as interim director since the council's decision and the departure of Carol McCauley from the Main Street/Redevelopment Area Manager position in May, will likely return to her duties as executive secretary under Davis, Galbraith said.
