Name: Marilyn Salomon
Medium: batik
Motto: Create from your deepest core.
Advice to beginning artists: Find out what is your passion, be it medium or subject and never waver from that even if it takes you a long, difficult time. Be dedicated. There are no shortcuts. If you do what you love, people will find you and be receptive to your work, whether it is to appreciate it or to buy it.
Award most proud: First place, mixed media at the Phippen Art Museum show in 2006 for "I Dance to My Grandmother's Story." I am most proud of this because it is unusual for art like I create to be recognized; they prefer traditional art.
I was also honored to be in the Who's Who of American Women, Millennium Edition.
Upcoming projects: preparing for the Peppertree Exhibition, body of work for Galleries West in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and speaking at Phippen in 2008.
Hometown: I was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., but I grew up in Los Angeles, Calif. from the time I was a year-and-a-half old.
Why Christopher Creek? We came here to build our dream house.
Hobbies: Gardening, yoga and hiking.
