Sense Of The Season

The Rim Country is ablaze with fall colors as the cool nights and warm days bring a change to the high country. This grove of aspens was found off of the FS 300, not too far from the Woods Canyon Lake recreational area and near the Kerr Lake trail.

For those who love the fall, the Rim Country is full of color, as cool nights and warm days mark the change of seasons. On the Tonto National Forest, some of the best color right now is high on the Rim where the Coconino and Tonto forests meet.

There are many aspen trees in color on the FS 300, just beyond Woods Canyon Lake and heading east. Coming up from Pine, you can spot some brilliant early morning color at Potato Lake. The hardwoods are about 30 to 50 percent turned, as of early this week, with more turning every day. It is near-peak color time on the Coconino National Forest.

Best bets now include drives on the Rim Road/General Crook Trail Drive and on the Mogollon Rim, take FR95 from the Blue Ridge Office to the Rim, the Coconino Web site says. There is a color hotline 1-800-354-4595.
