The Payson Longhorns (6-3 overall, 1-3 in the East) snapped a three game losing streak Friday night in Whiteriver by shellacking the Alchesay Falcons 40-8.
Quarterback Ridge Halenar paved the way to the victory throwing three touchdowns passes, rushing for a TD and scoring a two-point conversion.
The Longhorns struggled early leading just 13-8 late in the second quarter. But with 1:05 remaining in the first half, Halenar hooked up with Zack Brooks on a 16-yard scoring pass. Kyle Frewin's conversion kick gave PHS a 20-8 halftime lead.
In the fourth quarter, coach Josh Anderson empted his bench allowing the reserves plenty of playing time.
With the win the Horns virtually assured themselves a berth in the post season playoff via the power point system.
In other East region showdowns, Show Low beat Round Valley 28-21 in overtime and unbeaten and state No.1 ranked Blue Ridge hammered the Snowflake Lobos 42-7.
The regular season for the Horns wraps up Oct. 26 against Snowflake. Kickoff is 7 p.m. in PHS stadium.
