Chamber To Hold Quarterly Meeting, Seeks Voluntary Assessment

In an effort to "discuss lots of issues," including finding a funding source, the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce will host an informal meeting tomorrow, Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. at the Best Western Payson Inn.

Diane Enos, president of the Chamber Board of Directors, said the meeting was a "general meeting of the membership" for all active Chamber members.

"The plan is to have quarterly meetings now," she said.

"We haven't been keeping up with that."

Enos said one of the issues to be discussed is fund-raising.

"It's one of the things we'll be talking about -- coming up with ways to raise funds," she said.

The Chamber withdrew a contract for services with the town at an Aug. 2 Payson town council meeting, after criticism from Mayor Bob Edwards about the Chamber's progress and financial state.

The town would've provided the Chamber with up to $76,000 for the current fiscal year, if the contract had gone through.

That figure would have comprised about 27 percent of the Chamber's budget.

The Chamber board maintains "a contract with the Town of Payson under current conditions would not allow us to best serve our members," according to a letter sent out to active members.

The letter, which was sent to all Chamber members, includes a request to active members and local businesses, a "voluntary one-time assessment," as a means to make up for the funding deficit.
