Betty J. George, age 85, died Oct. 19, 2007 in the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City, Nev.
She was born in Evansville, Wis. Jan. 15, 1922, the daughter of Chester and Juanita (Hart) Hurd. She eloped with Archie R. George on May 19, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa. She was a wife, mother and homemaker with varied interests. She was an avid football fan, rooting for the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers.
Her desire to become a florist began when she was a bookkeeper at a flower shop in Janesville, Wis. Thus in 1954, she attended the American Floral Art School in Chicago, and upon graduation, purchased her own flower shop in Janesville, Wis., aptly named George's Flowers.
After retirement, Betty and Archie spent summers at Fish Lake near Roxbury, Wis. and winters at their home in Sun City, Ariz. Payson, Ariz. became their year-round home in 1998.
She is survived by a daughter Judy Glennie; two grandchildren, Sheila Glennie and Ronald (Stephanie) Glennie; and one great grandson, Logan Glennie, all of Henderson, Nev.; a brother Robert Hurd of Pahrump, Nev. and a sister Dawn (Mert) Krug of Oconomowoc, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Archie R. George, her husband of 66 years; a brother Edward Hurd; and a sister Priscilla Scro.
Burial will be at Milton Lawns Memorial Park with her husband in Janesville, Wis.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
