Payson Firefighters Helping In California

The Payson Fire Department has sent a crew of firefighters to assist with the fires in southern California this week.

On Tuesday, the call came from the Arizona Interagency Dispatch Center in Phoenix requesting a crew and fire engine to link with other Arizona crews and deploy to California.

The Payson crew joined with those from the Show Low Fire District, Pinetop Fire District, Central Yavapai Fire District and the Hualapai Valley Fire District and proceeded to their assignment at the Witch Fire in San Diego County. The crews expect to be assigned to structure protection and may be gone up to two weeks.

The department will be reimbursed for the costs of the equipment and personnel, as well for those firefighters covering their absence. Personnel on the crew are: Captains Sam Mays and Gary Vohs, Firefighter Daniel Malloy and Firefighter Jeffery Yungkans from the Diamond Star Fire District.
