Pmga Aims To Slice, Roast Turkey Rivals


Payson Men's Golf Association members are swinging their way into the Thanksgiving spirit by participating in a Turkey Shoot.

The first round of the three round individual low-net event was played Oct. 17 at Payson Golf Course.

Carving up the competition in the first flight, Frank Szakal set the table with a 62.

With a 67 Larry Baker was third. Troy Neal posted a 67 to wedge his way to third.

In the second flight, Roger Poole showcased his holiday bounty with a flight leading 64.

Chasing Poole home were runner-up Gary Campbell (64) and bronze medalist Gary Rovetto (67).

Ed Kuhns gobbled his way into first place in the third flight with a 68.

Ross Robertson was second and Jim Dalgleish third. Robertson posted a 70 and Dalgleish a 71.

Closest-to-the-pin winners included Bill McKenna (No.2; 10 feet, 9 inches), Jessie Smith (No. 14; 4 feet, 3 inches), Bob Hendrie (No. 17; 3 feet, 5 inches), Neal (No. 8; 7 feet, 2 ? inches) and Poole (No. 6; 6 feet, 7 inches).

The Turkey Shoot will continue Oct. 24 and 31 at PGC.

Members of the PMGA will celebrate the culmination of the 2007 season Nov. 9 at an awards banquet to be held at the Mazatzal Casino.
