A Globe woman allegedly tried to shoot and kill her mother last week.
The Gila County Sheriff's Department said Juanita Marquez was arrested Thursday, Oct. 25, on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, misconduct with a firearm and child endangerment.
With her 1-year-old child present, Marquez allegedly tried to shoot her mother in one room of their house on Inspiration Drive in Central Heights, and after failing on her first attempt, followed her into another room where she tried without success again to shoot her twice more.
Marquez used a .22 pistol she had gotten from the home, police said.
Police said she was apparently unfamiliar with how the weapon loads and fires and that is what probably thwarted her attempts at shooting her mother.
Sheriff's Deputy Ray Vanbuskirk investigated the incident and said Marquez had successfully gotten rounds into the weapon and if she had been able to chamber a round, the weapon would have likely fired.
