A few days ago I ran across a cruise that is priced so low it reminds one of the 1970s. MSC cruises will be repositioning their beautiful ship Lirica from Florida back to Europe, departing Fort Lauderdale, March 29, 2008. It will make calls at San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. John's, Antigua; Fort-de-France, Martinique; Funchal, Portugal; Vigo, Spain; Le Havre, France; and end at Dover, England. Seventeen nights of luxury, relaxation, interesting ports are priced from $1,399 per person for an ocean-view cabin. Government taxes are $58.50 p/p. An ocean-view single cabin is available at $2,099. The Lirica was built in 2004, is 59,000 tons, 824 ft. long and carries 1560 guests. If this looks interesting, don't wait to book, the ship will sell out quickly at these rates. Call Freighter World Cruises at 800-531-7774 and speak with Joycene. This ship is not a freighter; it is truly a lovely ship. MSC cruises is a division of an Italian container ship company with more than 19,000 employees. Presently they have eight cruise ships employed mostly in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
A new cruise line about to come on the scene is Azamara Cruises, which is a division of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Celebrity Cruises. Azamara has purchased two 30,000-ton, 700-passenger ships to be named Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest. These will be upscale ships with mostly ocean-view cabins, many with balconies. Dining will be open seating with a choice of three dining areas. Although true luxury will be provided, onboard attire will be country-club casual. Itineraries will feature Caribbean, Europe, Asia, South America, Panama Canal, and Antarctica. Later, a world cruise is planned.
