American Legion Watchfire Remembers Sept. 11

On the morning of Sept. 11, a short ceremony will be held at the American Legion, commencing at 9 a.m. with the lowering of the flag, a prayer and the playing of "Taps" will take place, marking the approximate times the four attacks took place.

On the evening of Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., a Watchfire will commence and will continue to burn for 12 hours, terminating at 6 a.m. the morning of Sept. 12.

Honor sticks will be made available to all who wish to honor the victims of the tragic terrorist attacks.

The honor sticks will be placed on the fire by those wishing to pay tribute by offering an appropriate prayer or by merely honoring the memory of our police, firefighters and veterans who have given their life in the name of freedom.

The American Legion is located at 709 E. Hwy 260 in Payson.
