Jean L. Holtzen, 84, of Strawberry, was born in Sioux City, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1922, and died Sept. 3, 2007.
She married Lester Holtzen on Nov. 15, 1941. Their marriage lasted 65 years.
When they were newlyweds of three weeks, Pearl Harbor was bombed. Her new groom re-enlisted in the Navy and went off to war on an aircraft carrier.
In 1951 the couple left the Iowa blizzards and moved with their family to Phoenix.
They enjoyed traveling with a fifth-wheel to campgrounds in the Arizona mountains, and eventually moved to a home in Strawberry.
After 12 years, they returned to Phoenix in 2004, due to poor health.
Mrs. Holtzen was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, and son, Thomas, within the last 9 months.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia and son-in-law James R. Schultz, son Tim Holtzen, daughter Cathy Holtzen, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at Best Funeral Chapel, 501 E. Dunlap, Phoenix, Arizona, with visitation immediately following the service.
