Honoring Freedom

Members of the Payson American Legion held a Watchfire for 12 hours on the evening of Sept. 11.

Starting at 6 p.m., members of the post kept the Watchfire burning until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Many Payson residents stopped to place honor sticks into the fire to honor victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack and to remember and honor veterans and individuals serving currently in the Armed Forces.

Honor sticks were also placed on the fire by residents paying tribute to police, firefighters and others who gave their lives in the name of freedom.

Among those placing honor sticks into the American Legion Watchfire were six-year Payson Police officer Henry Thomason.
