Robert L. Nelson was a devoted husband, father, ‘papa,' brother, uncle and friend.

Born Jan. 4, 1939 in Jamestown, N.Y., he was a Scottsdale and Payson resident for 30 years. He retired from manufactured home sales and car sales.

He enjoyed his retirement at his mountain home, where he loved riding quads, hiking, fishing, hunting, bowling and being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Weborg Nelson of Payson; sons, Troy (Joi) Nelson and Scott (Nisa) Nelson, of Payson; sister, Karen Erhard of Arizona; grandchildren, Ryan of Scottsdale, Christopher, Nikole, Wesley, Mary and Randee, all of Payson. He is also survived by nephews, Danny Johnson of New York and Kevin Erhard of North Carolina; nieces, Dawn Carutis of New York and Tiffanie Foster of Arizona; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy; parents, Edwin L. and Gertrude Nelson; and sister, Jackie Rowe.

A graveside service was held Sept. 12, 2007 at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Ariz.
