Barbara Jean Sweet


Barbara Jean Sweet died Aug. 26, 2007, after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 31, 1931 to Charles A. and Dorcas Birgam, in Bartonville, Ill., the youngest of seven children.

She spent most of her younger life in southwest Missouri and northeast Oklahoma.

She married Perty Van Sweet in 1952, and soon after, moved to southern California, where she worked as an executive secretary in the aircraft industry. In 1979, she retired and the couple moved to Payson. Mrs. Sweet later worked for the Northern Gila County Sanitary District, before retiring again in 1990.

Mrs. Sweet is survived by her son Steven of Payson and sister Esther (Jim) Kullman, of Sedalia, Mo. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Van; brothers, Charles W. Birgam and Robert G. Birgam Sr. and sisters Winona Bradshere and Virginia Closson and was followed by sister Shirley Schwietert on Sept. 4, 2007.
