George Hummel


George Hummel was born Dec. 18, 1914 in Sacalas, Romania, to Elizabeth Besch and Fredrich Hummel.

He came to America at the age of 12 with his mother, sister, Helen and brother, Fredrich. They met husband and father Fredrich, Sr. and lived in Chicago, Ill. George married Mary Q. Harlan in 1941 and worked for TWA as a flight engineer. He transferred with TWA to California in 1948 and moved Mary, two daughters and a son to Hermosa Beach. In 1955, another son joined the family, which was then residing in Hollywood Riviera, Calif.

He retired from TWA in 1974 and in 1980, moved to Arizona and resided in the Village of Oak Creek. Widowed in Sept. 2003, Mr. Hummel moved to Payson in May 2006.

Mr. Hummel is survived by daughters, Barbara J. (Fred) Cucksey of Oakland, Calif. and Marilyn H. (Buck) Tomerlin of Payson; sons, John R. (Janet) Hummel of Forest Grove, Ore. and George F. (Michelle) Hummel of Manteca, Calif.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary and grandson, Matthew Cole Hummel.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at Church of The Red Rock, 54 Bowstring Dr., Sedona, Ariz.
