The body of a 37-year-old Globe resident was discovered Monday under a bridge crossing Highway 260, about 20 miles east of Payson.
Gila County Sheriff's deputies found the body of Timothy C. Salazar near his truck at the mouth of a creek tunnel running under Highway 260, near milepost 277.
Gila County Sheriff's Det. George Ratliff said a missing person call came into the sheriff's station in Payson on Monday from Salazar's cousin.
While Salazar was driving to Roosevelt Lake Sunday, the cousin said they had a conversation over the phone, which led him to believe foul play might have been involved with Salazar's disappearance.
The Sheriff's Department began a search for Salazar and at about 4:30 p.m., arrived at the location where Salazar's body was discovered, Ratliff said.
"We found the body about 100 yards from his truck, and there were no external signs of foul play," Ratliff said.
He said Salazar's truck looked like it had been parked at the scene since Sunday.
An autopsy was scheduled for yesterday, Thursday.
Ratliff said Salazar's death is considered unexplained.
"In every case of unexplained death, I investigate it as a homicide, until physical evidence proves otherwise," he said.
