Fall is here and you can certainly see, feel, smell and hear the difference. Soon we will be hauling in wood and digging out the warm clothes. In the meantime, it is gorgeous.
The menu at the Senior Dining Room for the week of Oct. 1 through 5 is:
Monday: Ranchero steak, potatoes and vegetable.
Tuesday: Tamales, rice and beans.
Wednesday: Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy and vegetable.
Thursday: Stuffed pork loin, scalloped potatoes and vegetable.
Friday: Salmon, baked potato and vegetable.

Be sure to take part in the blood drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the First Baptist Church in Pine. The DPS Quilt Angels have donated a Halloween quilt, which will be given to some fortunate person who either donates, attempts to donate or volunteers to help at the blood drive. This is a beautiful quilt. Come give blood and you might have this quilt on display in your house for Halloween.
A presentation of the Arizona Health Care Directives Registry will be 12:30, Friday, Oct. 5 in the Senior Dining Room. Liz Atkinson will present the program.
This program is available for everyone of any age. Register your health care power of attorney, living will and mental health power of attorney.
There is no charge to register these documents and they are secure. Acting much like a safety deposit box, the registry provides safe, secure, tamper proof storage for these important records but it is accessible to you from your computer.

Pine-Strawberry First Chili Challenge will be Saturday, Oct. 6 beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The cook-off will take place outside under the Ramada at the Pine Community Center. Sample cups will be available for $3 and will allow everyone to sample all the chili, until it is gone.

There will be a raffle with many items donated by local merchants and individuals. All proceeds will benefit the senior center.
Bill King is the coordinator of this event. First-place winner receives a trophy, a $50.00 gift certificate for the Senior Thrift Store and bragging rights. Second- and third-place winners will receive a trophy.
Oktoberfest in the Pines at the Rimside Grill will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on October 6. Enjoy authentic German food, Warsteiner beers and Jagermeister, volleyball, horseshoes and stein-holding contests. Giveaways all day long. Admission tickets are only $1.00. There will be a DJ and karaoke and live music with the JD Madrid band.
Teen writing contest
The Pine Library is sponsoring a writing contest for students ages 10 through 17.
Write an original short story using the characters and setting from the hit movie, "High School Musical" and you could win $50.
Entries will be between 500 and 2,000 words and must be turned in to the library by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The winner must be present at the High School Musical Theme Party to receive the $50 prize.
The High School Musical Theme Party is from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the Pine Library Activity Room. (This is during fall break.)
There will be lip-sync singing, karaoke, games and activities. Come dressed as your favorite character from the movie. There will be snacks and fun.

Sign up for flu shots, which will be available at the Senior Center on Tuesday, Oct. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m. both days.

Tellabration is a celebration of storytelling held on the same night throughout the world. We are very fortunate to have this event in Pine.
This year, the DPS Quilt Angels, (Department of Public Safety) will sponsor this event at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 in the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center.
Dinner before theater will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. in the senior dining room.
Tickets for dinner and Tellabration are $25. The Tellabration alone is $5.
Tickets are available at Pioneer Title Agency, corner of Highway 87 and Whispering Pines Road, beginning Monday, Oct. 1.
Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Payson Humane Society building fund.
