The frost is on the pumpkin!
This past week, there has been frost on my vehicle and the tops of some of the flowers have withered.
And the rain, there sure was a lot of it this past weekend. Rick Prach, in Tonto Village I, measured 2.25 inches that fell in the village.
In Bear Flat, the amount of rain for September measured 2.35 inches. The normal rainfall is 2.1 inches.
Sunday morning, my husband and I trekked down to Punkin Center to check our property and was amazed how much rain had fallen down there. I did not get a total rainfall amount.
There were some gully washes around our area and we will need to dig a ditch for diverting some of the water, but all in all our damage was very minimal.
While we were there, I looked over the mountain to the west and saw a huge cloud of black smoke.
We remarked that maybe there was a forest fire, until we saw the DPS officers speeding up Highway 188.
Shortly after that, we left to return to Tonto Village and noticed that there were many vehicles going in the opposite direction.
We knew then that there was a big problem.
As we approached the turnoff to Hwy. 188, there were many squad cars diverting traffic off Hwy. 87 to Hwy. 188. As we approached Payson, the cars were stacked up for miles, all the way into the intersection of 87 and 260.
This was the worst traffic jam I have ever seen. I felt sorry for those people. I am sure that the backup lasted for many hours.
I was glad that we were going in the other direction.
Tonto Village Fire District
On Friday, Sept. 21, about 5 p.m., there was a rollover accident along Hwy. 260 near the entrance to the Control Road.
For the first time in many years, the Tonto Village Fire District responded to the call, along with Christopher/Kohl's and Diamond Star assisting.
The accident involved a single vehicle with three people involved. There were three helicopters, which took the injured to area hospitals. There has been no report on the extent of any of the injuries.

The nine-ball tournament this past Tuesday evening was held at the Double D Bar and Restaurant.
The gals from Christopher Creek almost swept the tables, but Ethel Cain finally shot for first place. Patty Boeschling and Nancy Olson, both of Christopher Creek, shot for second and third place.
Congratulations to the winners.
