Robert E. Couture, 70, died April 1, 2008 at his home in Payson, after a struggle with cancer.
Mr. Couture was born in Fitchburg, Mass., May 25, 1937, the son of Henry and Loretta (Farineau) Couture and resided much of his life in Fitchburg before moving to Arizona in January, 2003.
Mr. Couture is survived by his dear friends, Richard and Jean LeClair and their children, Ricky, Randy, and Lorianne LeClair and Penny Kovara all of Arizona; his sister-in-law; Kathleen Couture, two nephews; David and Todd Couture, and a niece, Laurie Berube all of Worcester.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Courture of Fitchburg, Mass. in 2002 and Rene Couture of Texas 2004.
For more than 20 years Mr. Couture served his country in the United States Navy retiring at the rank of Radioman 1st Class. Throughout his career he was stationed on the USS Glennon and the USS Pandemus. Following his 1975 retirement from the armed forces he worked as a bartender at the St. Joseph Club in Fitchburg, Mass. and as a limousine driver for the Donahue Limousine Company, Leominster, Mass.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg, and a member of the St. Joseph's School Association. He was a life member of the St. Joseph Club, a member of the American Legion Post #429 in Cleghorn, Mass., the Townsend VFW as well as the Tin Can Sailors Inc., Fall River, Mass.
The funeral will be Monday, April 7 in Fitchburg.
