Kohl Montana, 9, and his buddy, Malachi Kush, from Scottsdale went fishing Sunday, April 6 around 10:30 a.m at Green Valley Lake. On his first cast of the morning, using a worm purchased earlier, he snagged a near record-breaker at 19 inches and 2 lbs. Kohl was so excited, he reeled it in too quickly and snapped the line at the shore.
His father, Manny, had to wade in to help him land the fish.
Kohl's a pretty lucky kid and, wouldn't you know it, he snagged an even bigger trout -- so big it broke his reel. As fish stories go, that's the one got away, ending Kohl's luckytreak, his father said.
