General aviation emergency training

The Payson Regional Airport Authority (PRAA) urges all First Emergency Responders from the Rim Country, including firefighters, police, EMTs and paramedics, to participate in the Payson Airport General Aviation Emergency Training Day, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 19.

The general aviation community of Payson invites first responders to a free session to learn how to handle aviation emergencies.

Single- and twin-engine aircraft will be on display with explanations from pilots about the aircraft. A video -- "First Response and Other Emergency Situations" -- will be shown.

Lunch will be provided to all attendees.

Foster parent training

A foster parent training panel will address what information is most needed from foster parents about the children in their care, and what is the best format for information to be received and presented.

Foster parents and those considering becoming foster parents are invited to attend and ask questions.

The training is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at the LDS Church, 913 S. Ponderosa.

Childcare will be provided, but attendees should bring their own lunch.

Spring rodeo parade entries sought

The Payson Pro Rodeo Committee is presenting the "Main Event" -- the 2008 Gary Hardt Memorial Rodeo Parade.

The parade will be Saturday, May 17, starting at 9 a.m. There is no fee to enter, and forms to participate are available at the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce on the northwest corner of Highway 87 and Main Street.

Categories will be walking individual or group, motorized individual or group, manual powered vehicle individual or group, individual or group float, corporate float, mounted horse group or individual, leading horse group or individual, other animals -- individual or group, Best Rodeo Royalty entry, Best Overall.

Musical weekend at gila college

The students of Victoria Harris will present a recital at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19 in room 301 of the Gila Community College Payson Campus, 201 N. Mud Springs Road. Admission is free. Tenor Wayne Nelson, accompanied by pianist Victoria Harris will present a concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 20 in room 301 of the GCC Payson Campus. Admission is free.

Congressional candidate visits

Jeff Riley, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Arizona Congressional District One, will be in Payson Wednesday, April 16.

Riley will be at Fireside Espresso from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. He will also be at the Democratic Club meeting at the library at 6:30 p.m.

Sale to benefit summer camp

On Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 there will be a benefit sale at Calvary Chapel. The event includes a yard sale, car wash and bake sale to raise money for young people of the church to attend high school and junior high summer camp programs, and for youth outreach events in the community. Friday will be the yard sale and Saturday will be the car wash and bake sale, plus a continuation of the yard sale.

All of the proceeds will go toward the cost of sending students to summer camp and for planning youth events in the community.

Calvary Chapel is located at 1103 N. Beeline Highway. Activities will start at 6:30 a.m.

Free greenwaste day

Buckhead Mesa Landfill will accept greenwaste free of charge from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 19. Do not mix any trash with the greenwaste.

Buckhead Mesa Landfill is located east of Highway 87 between Payson and Pine.

Trade bulbs

Want to conserve energy? Bring an incandescent bulb to the APS booth at the Business Showcase on Saturday, April 19 in exchange for a free CFL (compact fluorescent light).

This offer is limited to the first 300 people at the APS booth and is limited to one per person. CFL bulbs are 75 percent more efficient and last 10 times longer.

Story time for tiny tykes

The Payson Public Library has story times for the youngest of youngsters.

The library has an infant and toddler story time for children up to age 2. It is at 10 a.m. every Monday in the library meeting room. Registration is not required.

Preschool story time is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays for children ages 3 to 6. It is also held in the meeting room, with no registration required.

Library presents program for boys

The Payson Public Library program "Knights of the Round Table," is from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19.

It is for boys only, ages 5 to 10. Participation is limited to 12. Register at the front desk, or call (928) 474-9260 for details.
