An upcoming volleyball tournament could be the key that unlocks the wonderful world of Disneyland to members of the Payson High School Class of 2008.
The benefit net fray, if it proves to be financially successful, would earn the money the seniors need to travel to California for "Grad Night" at the popular theme park.
Senior Lisa Bartoli said the tournament " will be held April 26, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Dome.
"We are asking for all kinds of participants from the high school, middle school and community.
"Teams can be co-ed, and players must be 12 years of age or older. The cost to enter will be $30 per team, with a minimum of six players."
In addition to hosting the tournament as a way to fund the Disneyland trip, the seniors will hold a car wash from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17 in front of Auto Zone.
"It will be for donations," Bartoli said. "We are inviting everyone to come out and get their car or truck washed."
This school year to earn even more class money, the seniors have also hosted dances and have sold T-shirts and sweatshirts through the school bookstore.
"Our class feels the need to fund-raise because having money in our senior account is critical to leave a gift to Payson High School, especially since the class of 2008 is the 50th graduating class of PHS," Bartoli said. "We want to leave behind something really great."
The senior trip will involve a busload of 45 to 50 seniors leaving Payson at about 1 p.m. May 29 bound for Anaheim. The group will return the following day.
"Disneyland will be closed to the public and opened only for seniors from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.," Bartoli said. "The funds needed are going to cover the cost of our charter bus."
Registration forms for the benefit volleyball tournament are available at the PHS offices, Rim Country Middle School offices and the Payson Roundup, 708 N. Beeline.
