The Arizona Department of Transportation will close Highway 87 for three days next week for repairs to the area near Sunflower hit by a landslide earlier this year.
The road will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights to allow ADOT crews to accelerate the repair of embankments in the Slate Creek area following a landslide that occurred on Friday, March 21.
The highway will close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday April 22, Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April, 24, reopening at 6 a.m. each morning for motorist travel, ADOT Public Information Officer Bill Williams said.
"Motorists can use US 60 and State Route 188 through Globe or I-17 and State Route 260 through Camp Verde to travel between the Phoenix and Payson areas during nighttime hours next week," Williams said.
ADOT is working closely with the U.S. Forest Service to ensure adequate erosion control and drainage on the project.
For more information on road closures and restrictions call AZ511, said Williams.
