A proclamation giving kudos to community volunteers for "lighting the way" and declaring April 27 to May 3 National Volunteer Week was signed by Mayor Bob Edwards at the April 17 Payson Town Council meeting.
The Payson Town Council acknowledged five organizations: Habitat for Humanity, TOP Police Volunteers, Time Out, Rim Country Literacy, Friends of the Library to represent all of the volunteer organizations in town.
If all the organizations packed town hall, there would not be room for the council.
As the proclamation reads, "volunteers are vital to our future as a caring, productive nation and town" and "experience teaches us that government by itself cannot solve all of our nation's social problems."
Civic organizations that would like a proclamation with their name on it can contact town clerk Silvia Smith, at (928) 474-5242, extension 240 for a personalized copy.
Americans have celebrated National Volunteer Week since 1974.
