Community Celebrates Octogenarian

Marty Bethancourt celebrated her upcoming birthday with several ladies from Christopher Creek. She wore the birthday hat all day. Marty is going to be 89 and I have to say she looks great and I want to be just like her when I grow up. The funny thing is we all thought Mimi was the oldest in the community. It looks like someone has you beat Mimi.

With all the rain and the cooler temperatures coming in so are the elk, deer and other wildlife. They are feeding along the highways and side roads early in the morning and at dusk. Tuesday morning I almost hit a deer on the way back from the bus stop. There was a serious accident involving a semi truck that swerved to miss a fox on Highway 260 near Ponderosa Campground around 2 a.m. that same morning. Everyone needs to use extreme caution when driving at these times of day.

Several members of the Christopher Creek community gathered recently to celebrate Marty Bethancourt's 89th birthday.

It is Labor Day weekend and traffic is going to be a nightmare, so drive carefully and take your time. Better yet, if you don't have to get on the highway, don't.

Saturday, Aug. 30 the Firebelles' Brats & Burgers event is at the fire hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You don't have to cook that day just come out for lunch and meet your neighbors.

There will also be a bake sale so you can take some goodies home and donate to the Christopher/Kohl's Fire Department.

The next no-host luncheon for the Firebelles is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8 at Creekside. Lunch begins at noon, call Phyllis Agnew at (928) 478-0976 for more information.

The Christopher Creek Homeowners Association is seeking nominations for the upcoming election of officers.

CCHA has 114 members and is active in the community services and social activities.

Nominations for president and vice-president should be submitted by Sept. 20 to CCHA, HC2 Box 121-P, Payson, AZ 85541. Nominees must be members of the CCHA, offer leadership and have a keen interest in furthering the objectives of the association.

Gary Anderson, president of the CCHA, would like to thank the following people for recently providing much-needed help and assistance to the community and the association: Supervisor Tommie Martin for her leadership in helping to obtain a much-needed storage unit to be used by several community service groups; Frank Marazza, Jim Olson and Josh Olson for their help in the work needed to get the storage in place and operational. These are the kind of people who make Christopher Creek a great place to live. Thanks, guys!

Sonny Hunt will be adding another candle along with the ones already on her cake on Sept. 2, Pam McDaniels and the birthday girl, Marty Bethancourt, will be celebrating on Sept. 3. Tucker Kilbourne will have another birthday on Sept. 4, and my daughter, Frankie Jo Marazza, will be celebrating on Sept. 5 as will Jim Cronk of Christopher Creek. Wishing all of you a happy birthday.
