Rim Country's Women Golfers Tear Up Links


Golfers representing Chaparral Pines, Rim Club and the Payson Women's Golf Association met Aug. 26 for a partner best ball formatted shootout.

After 18 holes of action at Payson Golf Course, the duo of Karen Peterson and Linda Wade emerged victorious in A flight with a card of 61. Peterson represented the PWGA and Wade the Rim Club.

In the battle for second place, two PWGA members, Laura Meyocks and Joyce Goff, tied Lois Judd and Bev Murray for the silver medal. Judd is a PWGA member and Murray represented Chaparral Pines. Both teams turned in identical scores of 62.

In B flight, PWGA member Connie Webber hooked up with Donna Daly of Chaparral Pines to take first with a 54.

In second at 56 was the PWGA team of Claudia Bullard and Marilyn Schaal.

Closest-to-the-pin winners among the guests were Sandy Marquette (No. 5), Johnnie Green (No. 8), Heidi Apodaca (No. 14 and No. 17).

PWGA prize winners were Connie Webber (No. 5), Lois Judd (No. 8), Alesha Calderwood (No. 14) and Shari Cody (No. 17).

"A great time was had by all with the weather cooperating," Goff said.

On the upcoming links agenda is the Payson Men's Golf Association's annual Buck and Doe tournament, which is the counterpart of the PWGA's Jack and Jill Tournament. In both frays the men players join forces with PWGA members.

The Buck and Doe will be played Sept. 26. John Calderwood is serving as tournament chairman.
