The Labor Day Bash, sponsored by the Hellsgate Fire Department Auxiliary -- the Fireflies of Tonto Village -- is coming together with the help of all the auxiliary members and firemen.
This year, the festivities will be held at fire station 22 in Tonto Village. The deep-pit barbecue dinner will begin at 11 a.m., with food served until 2 p.m. There are many other activities scheduled, including an air jump for the kids, an auction of many great items, a bake sale, and a raffle that has wonderful looking homemade quilts, a chain saw, a grass whip, a skill saw, a very unusual cactus fountain, and an outdoor fire pit.
All kinds of baked goods will be gratefully accepted. They can be brought to Janet Snyder's home at 646 Johnson Boulevard on Friday or at the fire station on Saturday morning. The auxiliary and auction chairman Joan Norem wishes to thank all of the contributors for their generous donations. Supporting the fund-raising effort with contributions this year are: Plant Fair, Central Arizona Supply, Foxworth-Galbraith, Western Village, Mazatzal Casino, Chapman Auto Center, Auto Zone, Legacy Furniture, The Candle Factory, Bashas', Safeway, Wal-Mart, Peggy's Payson Place, Macky's Grill, Fletcher's Auto, Creekside Restaurant, Rim Country Power Sports and Tiny's Restaurant.
Double D doings
The Double D will also be in on the festivities, making Tonto Village the place to be on Saturday, Aug. 30. Live music from Rockin' Ron Gibson and his band will be playing in the afternoon and into the evening. There will also be a popcorn machine and snow cone machine and nachos. There will also be a special meal deal of a barbecue chicken sandwich which will be served all day.
The nine-ball tournament last Tuesday evening was won by Payge Ferriera. Betty Koutz and Nanci Olson of Christopher Creek shot for second and third places.
The Scotch Doubles tournament last Friday was won by the team of "Cowboy Bill" and Margaret Stasney. Second place was won by a team from Payson, Jennifer Sharp and Jeremy Huscher. Third place was won by Steve and Danette Anderson of Tonto Village III.
Sunday afternoon is eight-ball competition time and Harvey Poyner, Joe Ferriera and Payge Ferriera shot for the three top spots. Congratulations to all the winners.
Tonto Village Chapel
Sunday morning, Aug. 31, at 9 a.m., Phil and Joy Dickey will perform a special concert for the congregation. The pair has performed at the chapel in the past and has always drawn many people to listen. If you would like to know more about their music, they have a Web site, www.dickeyministries.org.
There will be many visitors to our area this coming weekend so caution should be the key word for everyone. For campers, the word is fire safety; and for all the drivers, don't take any unnecessary chances. We want everyone to have a great time for the Labor Day weekend.
