Lady Longhorns Put 2-0 Record On The Line

The Lady Horns will put their unblemished 2-0 record on the line when they play host to the Fountain Hills Falcons at 7 p.m. tonight, Dec. 2, in Wilson Dome.

Payson opened the season Nov. 24 with a 46-27 victory over Holbrook and followed it up the following day by whipping Scottsdale Valley Christian, 63-27.

Sandwiched between the two wins was time off for the Thanksgiving holiday.

In whipping SVC, the Lady Horns rode the scoring and rebounding of Jenna Robertson who finished with a team-high 20 points and nine boards.

Against Holbrook, she also led with highs in points (15) and rebounds (16).

Christina Deaton chipped in the 17 points and senior point guard Cydney Figueroa had 11 to go along with her game-high seven steals.

Deaton’s 11 rebounds and seven from Kayla Morgan gave the Lady Horns a strong force on the boards.

Last year, both were All-East Region selections.

Against SVC, PHS coach Stacy Anderson cited Rose Hardt for “getting quality minutes adding some defensive intensity.”

Robertson, Figueroa, Deaton, Morgan and Hardt are also expected to be huge contributors when Payson takes on Fountain Hills tonight.

The game will be a season opener for the Lady Falcons.

Also, Lady Longhorn fans are being told this year that the dates for the Holiday Hoops tournament have been changed from the traditional post- Christmas weekend to Dec. 12 and 13. Also the number of teams participating is being reduced from 16 to eight.

The Lady Horns will also be in action Dec. 5 against Valley Christian. Game time is 7 p.m. in Wilson Dome.
