Christmas Parties Planned

Snyder family photo

Some of the Snyder and Porter family gals got together in Yuma recently and all received a pedicure at the same time at the Yuma School of Beauty. Enjoying the treat were (from left) Jennifer Walk, Janet Porter, Christina Lopez, Eileen Porter and Janet Snyder.

The holiday season is here, whether we are all ready or not. I guess I am a slow starter, but a few of my neighbors are decorating their homes and the lights look so festive. One in particular I would like to mention is Jake and Kendra Garrett’s home — it looks wonderful. I have not started the outside yet, but I have bought a few Christmas presents. Of course they are not wrapped yet, I always seem to wait until the last moment.

Yuma pedicure

When I was in Yuma a week or two ago, my daughter Eileen, her daughter and daughter in-law and I decided to get pedicures. Since my granddaughter Jennifer is a beautician and graduated from the Yuma School of Beauty in downtown Yuma, that is where we all went. What fun! My granddaughter Jennifer told all of us of the dangers of getting a pedicure at places that don’t have portable tubs. Debris from other pedicures can get stuck in the jets from the permanent tubs and can cause fungus on the toenails. She cautions people to ask if the jets are cleaned out before you stick your toes in the water.

Upcoming events

The Domino Divas group will hold its annual Christmas party at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Tonto Village firehouse. There will be a dirty Santa gift exchange (not to exceed $10 in value) and plenty of really good food. Dress in festive garb and bring along a dish to share.

Chief Gary Hatch has scheduled the Hellsgate Fire Department Christmas party for Saturday, Dec. 20. This year the event will be at the Lamplighter Community Room in Star Valley. The dress is semi-formal and the festivities will start at 6 p.m. Please bring a gift costing no more than $10. Chief Hatch would also like everyone to bring some canned goods for the St.Vincent de Paul Food Bank. If you need more information, call Bobbie Fuller at (928) 978-1900.

On Dec. 8, John Haulot will celebrate his birthday. Old-time residents of Tonto Village will remember John from Honest John’s Lumber Yard back in the 1970s. John moved to Tonto Basin a few years ago, but he and his wife Flo still come to the Village occasionally for a visit. Happy birthday, John.

Pastor Roger Pike of the Star Valley Baptist Church has his big day on Dec. 10. My husband and I shared Thanksgiving dinner with him and his wife Bernita at Phon and Dara Sutton’s home in Bear Flat. We all wish him a very happy day. Jeff Shaw of Tonto Village III adds another candle to his birthday cake Dec. 12. Jeff is the Village’s master painter. Have a great day, Jeff. Carol Fulp, who now spends most of her time in the Valley, but occasionally comes to the Village to visit with old friends, will celebrate her big day Dec. 13. Duane Long of Long Ranch and John Digman of Tonto Village I will add another candle on their birthday cake Dec. 14. The next day, Dec. 15, J.R. Alliger and Flo Haulot share a birthday. Rita Spalink has her special day on Dec. 19.

The secret of a happy life is to think kindly of the past and live fully in the now. Have a wonderful birthday to all of you.
