Stacy Anderson’s Lady Horns are making the winning territory familiar ground in these early days of the 2008-2009 basketball season.

The girls posted an impressive 61-26 win over Fountain Hills when they met on Payson’s home court Dec. 2. They beat Holbrook Nov. 24 at home 46-27 and bested Scottsdale Christian 63-27 on the road Nov. 25.

The Lady Horns led at the close of every quarter against Fountain Hills: 13-9, in the first quarter; 34-13 at the half; 43-16 at the third; and 61-26 at the final buzzer.

Kayla Morgan led the scoring with 12 points, followed by Christina Deaton and Jenna Robertson, who both put 11 points on the board.

Robertson led the team in rebounds with 11, followed by Morgan with 7 and Candice Ayres with 5. Marquel Waterman had four steals.

Also on the team are Rylee Halenar, Rose Hardt, Cydney Figueroa, Maddie Nossek, Kelsey Waugh, Shelby Hill and Holly West.

“It was an outstanding team effort,” Anderson said.

The Lady Horns will host Valley Christian Friday, Dec. 5 in the dome. The freshman and junior varsity teams will also play. Scheduled start times are 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The girls go on the road Tuesday, Dec. 9 to play Florence.

“I think Valley Christian will be a good test for us. They seem to have some good players,” Anderson said.

Florence is a mystery at present.

“I feel if we just stick to the fundamentals of basketball we should be very competitive with any team,” Anderson said.
